Regional Steering Group
The functions of the Regional Steering Group are:
- To develop and implement the 2 Year Strategic Plan
- To approve and ensure implementation of Annual Action Plans, in consultation with the SW Regional Partnership Advisory Groups
- To have oversight of Regional Partnership budget and the regional budget for disagreement resolution
- To receive regular progress reports from the Regional Facilitators, Task Groups and Development/Project Officers with specific responsibility for regional initiatives
- To liaise with the SW Regional Partnership Advisory Groups and provide the groups with regular progress reports
- To provide a representative on the National Steering Group
- To support the Regional Partnership employees
The Regional Steering Group includes 4 Local Authority representatives and 2 members of the Inter-agency Advisory Group. The current members of the Regional Steering Group can be found here.

Regional Partnership Advisory Groups
The functions of the Regional Partnership Advisory Groups are:
- To advise and support the Regional Steering Group
- To act as a key link between the Regional Partnership and other agencies and groups across the region
- To represent key stakeholders
The two Regional Partnership Advisory Groups are:
SW Regional Special Needs and Disability Conference
The SW Regional Special Needs and Disability Conference meets every term. It is a forum for those involved in the strategic management of special educational needs across the region to find out about and contribute to national developments in SEN and social inclusion, share practice and support self-evaluation.
Membership includes the Senior Officer responsible for SEN, SEN Adviser and Principal Educational Psychologist for each south west LEA. The Regional Partnership Facilitators attend the SW Regional SEN Conference, which has 5 representatives on the Regional Partnership Steering Group.
The Interagency Advisory Group has been set up to ensure that the work of the Regional Partnership engages with, and is supported by, a wide range of organisations in addition to Local Education Authorities. It includes representatives nominated by:
- Association of Directors of Social Services
- Connexions
- Early Years and Childcare Development Partnerships
- Government Office South West
- Health
- Learning and Skills Council
- Maintained mainstream schools
- SW Association of Leaders of Special Schools
- SW Mental Health Promotion Network
- Non-maintained special schools (through NASS)
- Parents (through Somerset Impact)
- Regional Parent Partnership Network
- Voluntary organisations

The Interagency Advisory Group meets annually with the Regional Steering Group. At this meeting 2 members of IAG are nominated to serve on Regional Steering Group. Otherwise the group function as a 'virtual group' through email etc. Where invited the regional facilitators will provide input to meetings of the organisations represented on the Inter-agency Advisory Group, e.g. attending all meetings of the Regional Parent Partnership Network
