About the Partnership

The South West Regional Partnership is one of 9 Regional Partnerships sponsored by the Department for Children, Schools and Families [formerly known as the DfES]. The aim of the Partnerships is to promote inclusion and positive outcomes for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and looked after children.
They will do this by:
- bringing partners together on a voluntary basis to enable the sharing of best practice regionally and nationally
- supporting the development and delivery of key areas of national policy
- working in partnership with Government Offices on the delivery of regional priorities
- supporting the development of more inclusive policies and practices

A multi-disciplinary Steering Group draws up a Strategic Plan that identifies objectives, the intended benefits and the associated activities. Progress is regularly reported to the Steering Group and to the DCSF, and is also published on this website.
The key priorities for the south west region are:
- Participation of parents and young people in strategic policy and individual planning
- Further development of the role of special schools
- Improved access to training through OnlineInset and the development of the role of Lead Tutors
- Establish a training brokerage (the Learning Development Community)
- Develop access to specialist knowledge and expertise through Strategic Development Teams
- Work with Local Authorities and the SW Regional centre of Excellence to develop the strategic use of data to inform policy and use of provision
- Improved arrangements for commissioning of specialist provision in conjunction with the SW Regional Centre of Excellence
- Supporting and linking with key regional networks to improve outcomes for children and families.
In addition, the South West Regional Partnership is the lead region nationally for parent partnership and outreach.
